Fun Fun Fun Day 1

Day 1 was gorgeous; sunny and warm, with stellar music and free booze (backstage, at least) that flowed as water. Fun Fun Fun Fest is was hands-down my favorite of the three fests I hit this year (Monolith and ACL being the others).
I got to the park late, just in time for Shonen Knife:

Next, Vega… I’ve seen them a couple of times before, and they are always an awesome dance party.

Then Red Sparrowes, who I hadn’t heard before but really was diggin’… post-rock out of LA.

After a few songs, I booked it to Dead Confederate, who I purely by happenstance hung out with a couple times at last year’s fest without having any idea of who they were.

Was kinda sad to leave before the end of their set, but I had to catch Yeasayer. Ambling Alp has been stuck in my head since I first heard it, and I wanted to hear it live. I really really liked their new material!

I jaunted over to Shearwater after that, but haven’t edited those yet… let’s just skip ahead to Ratatat, whose on-stage antics (backbending guitar moves, swilling vodka from the bottle!) were almost as entertaining as the music.

Neon Indian album

Neon Indian

Apparently Neon Indian’s new/debut/much-hyped album dropped yesterday… first I heard about the release, which prolly means I’m behind everyone ever. It’s called Psychic Chasms; the tracklist =

1. (AM)
2. Deadbeat Summer
3. Laughing Gas
4. Terminally Chill
5. (If I knew, I’d tell you)
6. 6669 (i dont know if you know)
7. Should have taken acid with you
8. Mind, Drips
9. Psychic Chasms
10. Local Joke
11. Ephemeral Artery
12. 7000 (reprise)

Will listen/post if it’s any good. Vega (another Alan Palomo thing) was freakin’ awesome at their ACL aftershow. They’re also about to set off on over a month of touring, hitting Austin’s Fun Fun Fun Fest right in the middle. ROCK.
